Art & Shows: The Music For Installations Blog
Antenna Festival 21-22 February, Evergem, Belgium
>> Music For Installations performs on Saturday 22 of February 2020 at the ANTENNA FESTIVAL with Niek Cornil as video artist on stage. << For the first time a two-day festival brings Belgian artists from various art forms (sculpture, photography, film, graphics ...) together with electronic music. During the two days there will be, in and around the cultural centre, a large number of workshops and musical events, including the lobby and mezzanine of the adjacent library. Think of next events: photo and film presentations, interactive sound installations, hands-on booths for modular synths and more.
Fractions Of Unity
Presenting the new album on the AntennA Festival, 22 of Februay 2020, where we play a live-set. The album will be release by WOOL-E Discs. Work is already some time in progress and is inspired on the small against the whole. In the music, abstract is again given a slightly more prominent role then in the latest album, without losing sight of the classical drone.
Hommage Pierre Henry
This year we said goodbye to Pierre Henry. On Bandcamp you can meet some artists who created a hommage to this pioneer in integrating noise into music. All made a piece of about 4 minutes 30 seconds en 'musique concrète'. The concept of Soundscape is not far away here, however, in musique concrète, one mostly 'should' start from a 'concrete' sound, something real which then can be processed. This differs from the absolute freedom Music for Installations uses in creating soundscapes, where the source can be anything, also virtual. Thank you Pierre.
Live performance Museum of Fine Arts
Soundset is a musical project aiming to translate visual art into electronic music, organised by The Museum of Fine Arts, Ghent. The inspiration comes from the exposition Modernism.

Little Antenna Live PostX Merelbeke
Music For Installations is invited on Littl' AntennA, a series of small concerts or try-outs, that are held in the beautiful PostX space in Merelbeke Belgium (12 October 2019). The intimacy of the space gives the possibility to choose sometimes go for more unconventional tracks. So that will happen with the first-time-ever live performance of some tracks, like from the Haukijärvi cycle and from older albums like Live at the Museum of Fine Arts. Also with live video-display from Niek Cornil.
Live At The Museum Of Fine Arts
Released on the DATABLOEM LABEL and also available on Bandcamp! The album is the result of an edited version of the recording of the Live Set in the Museum of Fine Arts in Gent on 28th of November 2013. I've been asked to set up soundscapes inspired on the theme of a forest. The live performance was in the half circled central aula of the Museum between beautiful sculptures and columns.
Melancholia Video
With Melancholia, Lars Von Trier made a very intense movie about fear and depression. Von Trier found a way to translate these very troubled emotional difficulties, from which he struggles himself, through this incredible motion picture. This track is a tribute to Melancholia in all its intensity.
Textielfestival Ronse Opening Act
The opener of the Textile Festival is in the hands of Music For Installations. Friday 25th of September 2015 at 21.00 at the Ververij in Ronse. This evening will be a mix of soundscapes and ambient music, with some reflections to the cosmic music from my other project Lounasan.
Fortaleza Aves Video
Hannes Diehl asked me to work on his video project about strange bird creatures and fishes. The imagery resulted in a display on the walls of a building in Fortaleza, Brazil. The animals get some motion in the video and to support this movement, Music For Installations jumped in with field recordings and created soundfiles. The display was done during Vila das Artes during January and March 2015.
Dark Side
Music is to heal not to destroy... even when you visit the dark side of your mind. Released on Bandcamp, this album is a more darkened world of soundscapes and drones. Music is probably the best way to translate these deep and dark feelings when you are at the end of the road and sinking away. These feelings are so hard to describe in words to other people, especially if you never have been in this condition. You, as a listener, can experience and learn what this is about.
Scape It Out
Scape it Out is based on sculpting existing sounds recorded somewhere, halfway between everywhere and nowhere and released on Bandcamp. This recording has resulted in a very direct sonic landscape. The basic material has been shapeshifted, turned inside out, swapped and merged to create basic elements. This results in a new platform of ideas.
Poetry – Poëzie
During June 2017 the video Melancholia has been screened during the expo Poetry - Poëzie at PC Sint-Franciscus in Velzeke, Zottegem, Belgium. It was a good opportunity to connect with a different audience, by screening off-line and at a site that connects very good with the themes hanging around the work. The video artwork is by Niek Cornil, audio by Music For Installations.
Painted Reflections (live)
Live on earth is quite meaningless. All this running about, getting important, finding a place for infinity. Why? This is the live recording, taped during the exposition together with Jan Vindevogel, and with the kind support of Guy Van den Storme. The albums is for sale as an artwork along with all the other works that were on display in this nice art-deco surrounding in Oudenaarde.

Lecture ZKM Karlsruhe – Sound Art Curating
What is the position of a curator in the evolving world with all its new technologies? I've been wondering a long time what the criteria exactly are for a curator involved in sound art. And why is sound art so far away in museums sometimes? By lectures and seminars there will be a focus on the methodologies, histories, theories and practices of sound art curating. The session at ZKM will be an opportunity for Music For Installations to present a lecture around this topic.

The way that Music For Installations works in listening and creating artworks, is actually similar. The lecture from MFI will be held at the Bötzow-Brauerei in Berlin on Saturday 4th of June 2011 in the afternoon. This lecture will show some basic principles about the use of detailtechniques into contemporary electronic music. Some basic audio examples will be used to show the endless possibilities.
